Practical guides

How much does a professional website cost in Cameroon?

Between the free page and the multi-million project, a website's price comes down to a few simple choices. Here is how to understand them before asking for a quote.

Ask for three quotes for a business website and you will get three prices that have nothing in common. The reason is simple: each provider is actually pricing a different website. To compare them, you need to know what drives the price.

What drives the price

  • the number of pages, and above all who writes the copy and supplies the photos;
  • the features: contact form, appointment booking, Mobile Money payment, customer area;
  • the design: a template adapted to your brand, or a fully custom creation;
  • the domain name and hosting, which are paid every year;
  • maintenance: updates, backups, security, small changes.

The costs people forget

A website is not a one-off purchase. The domain name renews every year, so does hosting, and a site that is never updated eventually becomes a way in for hackers. Before signing, ask who takes care of all this after launch, and what it costs.

Pay once, or subscribe?

There are two models. In the first, you pay for the build, then handle hosting and maintenance yourself or pay for them separately. In the second, a monthly subscription covers the site, hosting and support. A subscription spreads the cost and guarantees that someone looks after the site.

That is the choice we made with BIKUS SYSTEM: a website designed for your trade, hosted and supported, from 5,500 FCFA a month, plus a 35,000 FCFA setup fee covering the domain name and initial configuration. Every enquiry left on the site reaches you by email.

Five questions to ask before signing

  • Will the domain name be registered in my name?
  • Will I be able to change the text and photos myself?
  • If I stop, do I get my content back?
  • Does the site work well on an entry-level phone with a slow connection?
  • Who answers, and how fast, if the site goes down?
